THE RUSSIAN PAVILION AT EXPO-2017 SUMS UP THE RESULTS OF THE WORK

The EXPO-2017 International Specialized Exhibition, which was held from June 10 to September 10, 2017, completed in Astana. The main theme of the exhibition is Future Energy. 115 countries and 22 international organizations took part in it. During the period of the event, EXPO-2017 was visited by over 3,860,000 people. 

The exhibition complex area is 174 hectares, 25 of them were allocated for the pavilions of countries and organizations. The complex includes a press center, a conference center, residential buildings, an indoor city, hotels, shopping and entertainment centers.

KEY RESULTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE RUSSIAN PAVILION AT EXPO-2017:

− Gold Award of the International Exhibition Bureau;
− over 800,000 visitors, including 500 official delegations;
− 8 thematic weeks;
− more than 150 business events;
− the Festival of Russian Regions’ Culture organized by the Pavilion;
− exposition of over 1000 sq.m.
− more than 13,000 journalists from around the world.

The Russian Pavilion was visited by: Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation; Dmitry Medvedev, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation; dignitaries of countries participating in the exhibition, including Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, many heads of international organizations and the largest companies of the world.

The Russian participation was organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. The Organizing Committee was headed by Denis Manturov, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.

RUSSIAN GOLD

The Russian Pavilion won an honorary Gold Medal of the International Exhibition Bureau in the nomination of Exhibition Design for the first time since the first EXPO was held in London in 1851. The silver medal was awarded to the Great Britain, the bronze one - to the Republic of Korea.

Georgy Kalamanov, General Commissioner of the Russian participation at EXPO-2017, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, personally received the award from Erbol Shormanov, Deputy Chairman of Astana EXPO-2017 National Company.

115 national pavilions and 22 pavilions of international organizations presented advanced technological innovations in the field of alternative energy sources were candidates for honorary awards.

Denis Manturov, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, commented on the event:

"This is a high assessment of the work of the whole team. The project has lasted for many years and we are glad that our work and the contribution of the Russian Pavilion to the success of the whole EXPO-2017 exhibition received the highest award. We thank all our partners, sponsors, and participants of the business program for their support.

The Russian Federation has been a permanent participant of EXPO since 1851, but it has never hosted the exhibition. We have applied for the right to host EXPO 2025 in the city of Yekaterinburg. I am sure that our gold in Astana proves that Russia is a worthy organizer of such large-scale events," the Minister emphasized. 

Georgy Kalamanov, General Commissioner of the Russian participation at EXPO-2017, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, noted:

"We are not going to rest on our laurels: we've already submitted an application for the right to hold EXPO-2025 in Yekaterinburg. Thanks to a well-developed transport system, the city is the best choice for the international exhibition which brings together representatives of countries from different continents."

EXPOSITION

The Russian Pavilion was a vivid reflection of the country’s capacities in ensuring the energy security of the planet. The main slogan of the exposition which sounds like: "Russia is the energy potential of the planet" was fully covered in the Russian Arctic theme. This unique natural region is a bright demonstration of the unexplored, undiscovered potential of the country.

The exposition told the guests about the domestic energy industry achievements and the energy ideas of the future in the Arctic. A multimedia stand of Rosatom Corporation was installed in the Pavilion. In addition, PAO NOVATEK, National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University, ROTEС Holding, B.E. Vedeneev All-Russia Research institute of hydraulic engineering, as well as Hevel Company presented their advanced inventions. 

About 200 national enterprises and federal subjects of Russia were invited to participate in the Russian section at EXPO-2017. Among the partners of the Russian pavilion: Uralchem, Uralkali, Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation, PJSC Transneft, PJSC Rosseti, PJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel, and several other companies. Among the Russian regions presented at the exhibition: the Republic of Tatarstan, the Sverdlovsk and Chelyabinsk Regions, the Government of Moscow, the Government of St. Petersburg, and other federal subjects of Russia

The central object of the exhibition attracting the guests' attention was an ice block - a part of an iceberg delivered by the organizers to EXPO-2017 in order to enable every guest to touch a piece of the Arctic.

BUSINESS PROGRAM

The second floor of the Russian Pavilion with an area of 1000 sq.m. was allocated for business events. Within the framework of the Business Contacts Exchange at EXPO-2017, more than 150 business negotiations and meetings were held, international agreements were concluded, including the Memorandum of Cooperation between Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas and KazMunaiGas Exploration Production JSC, which will form the basis for active cooperation between the countries in the field of geological exploration and production.

Within the thematic week of St. Petersburg held from August 9 to 14, an Agreement on Cooperation between St. Petersburg and Astana for 2017-2021 was signed, which approved programs for trade, economic, scientific, technical, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the cities.

On September 8, within the framework of the National Day of Russia at EXPO-2017, the Russian Pavilion supported the XI KAZENERGY Eurasian Forum; the session called "Clean Energy - Contribution to the Future" organized by the Global Energy Association in cooperation with Kazenergy was held within its business program.

Arkady Dvorkovich, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, had a welcoming speech at the session:

"EXPO is known all over the world and I hope that it will help Astana to become eventually one of the leading financial centers. Russia also has something to show: our participation in the world exhibition since 1851, as well as expert, industrial, and, what is the most important, intellectual potential that we want to use for the benefit of our country and the whole world. We are glad that our Pavilion has contributed to the success of the exhibition and became a platform for guests and professionals in the field of energy for discussions and business contacts."

One of the key priorities of the Russian Pavilion has been development of business contacts. B2B meetings with companies from Russia, Kazakhstan, and other countries, as well as with international organizations were held in the business area of the Pavilion during the exhibition. The exhibition was visited by business delegations from Novosibirsk, Mordovia, the Omsk Region and Tula, their main purpose was searching for business contacts and new markets for production distribution.

THEMATIC WEEKS

A series of thematic weeks was held during the period of the exhibition.

June 12-18: "Human Energy: Driver of International Cooperation in Technological Development" organized with the support of the Republic of Tatarstan.

July 12-23: The Nuclear Energy Week organized by Rosatom State Corporation with lectures, documentary films, seminars, the panel session called "Zero Carbon Energy - Future Energy" and business negotiations within the Business Contacts Exchange.

July 24-30: The Week of the Chelyabinsk Region with round tables, conferences and the forum named "Progressive Experience: Creating Energy Networks, Best Regional Practices".

August 9-14: The Week of St. Petersburg.  A series of business events was held for business representatives from different countries: "The Energy of Events. Tourist Potential of Newsworthy Events: Best practices", "The Energy of Innovations: Industrial and Innovative Potential of St. Petersburg and the Republic of Kazakhstan, Prospects for the Development of Cooperation between the Regions", as well as a Business Contacts Exchange.

August 22-24: The Week of the Sverdlovsk Region.  A panel discussion on "Ural-Style Efficient energy" was held in the Russian pavilion, and the Deputy Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region presented the Russian application for the right to hold EXPO-2025 in Yekaterinburg.

On August 24, a conference on "Modern Technologies for smart megalopolises" organized by the Government of Moscow was held in the Russian Pavilion.

August 29 - September 3: the Week of PJSC Rosseti with a series of business events under the theme "Power Grids of the Future".

The final thematic week on "Transportation of Oil and Oil Products Through Long Distance Pipelines: New Technologies, International Cooperation" organized with the partnership of two large state corporations - PJSC Transneft and PJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel - was held from September 4 to September 10.

CULTURAL PROGRAM

A key event of the Russian Federation's cultural program at EXPO-2017 was the Festival of Russian Regions' Culture with the participation of leading creative teams of the Samara, Omsk, Ulyanovsk, Chelyabinsk, Sverdlovsk, and Altai regions, the Republic of Tatarstan, Moscow, and St. Petersburg.

The festival culminated in celebrating the National Day of Russia on September 8 which ended with a large-scale gala concert.
Special attention at EXPO-2017 was paid to projects within the Year of Ecology in Russia: a show of the Eco Fashion Theater and the International Tiger Day celebration organized with the support of the Amur Tiger Fund.

NATIONAL DAY

On September 8, a large-scale celebration of the National Day of the Russian Federation was held at EXPO-2017 with cultural and business events in its program. The National Day started with the program session "Clean energy - Contribution to the Future".

Arkady Dvorkovich, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, and Askar Mamin, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan had welcoming speeches.

The National Day organizers paid special attention to the cultural program. The visitors could attend the performances of Lyudmila Zykina State Academic Russian Folk Ensemble together with Alina Domracheva, the Voice Kids participant, Altai State Youth Song and Dance Ensemble, CoffeeTimeBand, Buranovskiye Babushki group, as well as creative teams from different parts of the country.

The most exciting moment of the National Day was the national parade: representatives of the Pavilion, volunteers with flags of regions, and guests of the event marched from the stage to the Pavilion Atrium accompanied by a wind orchestra.

HONORED GUESTS OF THE PAVILION

The solemn opening of the exhibition took place on June 9, 2017; the Russian exposition was visited by Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation. Dmitry Medvedev, Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, visited the Russian exposition on August 14. Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, also became a guest of the Russian Pavilion on August 25, 2017.

In total, the Russian Pavilion was visited by more than 500 official delegations with the participation of Ministers of the Russian Federation and foreign countries, ambassadors, heads of Russian and international corporations and companies, commissioners and directors of countries' pavilions. Honored guests of the Russian Pavilion were: Bakytzhan Sagintayev, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Andrey Kobyakov, Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus; Xavier Bettel, Prime Minister of Luxembourg; Igor Shuvalov, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation; Denis Manturov, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation; Alexander Novak, Minister of Energy of Russia; Viktor Khristenko, President of the Business Council of the Eurasian Economic Union; Khalid A. Al-Falih, Minister of Energy, Industry, and Mineral Resources of Saudi Arabia; Usmonzod Usmonali Yunusali, Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan; Jiri Havlicek, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic; Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili, Minister of Energy, Green Technologies and Water of Malaysia; and others.

MASS MEDIA

During the EXPO-2017 International Specialized Exhibition, the Russian Pavilion was visited by over 13,000 media representatives from different countries and press services of the participating countries. 20-50 articles and news reports about EXPO appeared in electronic and print media every day. 

The exhibition events were covered by the leading Russian publications like Rossiya Segodnya IIA and by TV channels: Russia-24, NTV, Russia-1, Channel One Russia, TV Tsentr, Khabar, IA TASS, Busines FM, Gazeta.ru, Vesti.ru, Interfax and many other Russian and international media.
